DEEP Manufacturing highlights AI role in Additive Manufacturing for the energy sector ahead of key SPE and IADC AI Middle East events

Privileged to be part of the roundtable for the fascinating debate held at ADIPEC Exhibition and Conference in Abu Dhabi on the application of large-scale additive manufacturing and how additive manufacturing can continue to transform the energy sector hosted by Peter Richards, Chief Executive Officer, DEEP Manufacturing and Louise S., Chief Operating Officer, DEEP Manufacturing.

DEEP is an international research and development organisation engineering new technologies which will improve understanding and preservation of the planet’s deep-water environments. Their mission is to imagine and invent amazing things that empower our species to sustainably explore, live, work, and thrive underwater.

Discussions covered the technology’s impact on lead times, emissions reduction, cost savings, and the challenges of industry-wide adoption due to intellectual property concerns, certification processes, and traditional procurement habits. Experts from ADNOC Group, Emerson, Siemens Energy and others highlighted recent advancements and addressed the importance of collaboration, skill development, and alignment on standards to enable effective implementation.

The roundtable discussion emphasized a need for a mindset shift toward innovation and proactive measures to enhance industry-wide resilience.  One of the key talking points was ‘How will the integration of AI and disruptive technologies impact production processes, workforce dynamics, and organizational culture in the future?’

The rollout of AI technologies was the dominant theme at ADIPEC 2024 and looking forwards, Society of Petroleum Engineers International and IADC Southern Arabian Peninsula Chapter are picking up the baton by hosting three AI themed events in the region.

SPE will host ‘Integrated Digitalisation and AI Technologies Empowering the Future: Harnessing Digitisation and AI for Sustainable Transformation in Oil and Gas’ will be held in Abu Dhabi on 16–17 December.

The IADC Drilling Conference in Muscat on 10-11 December will feature a specialist panel: Unlocking the Well of the Future through Digitalization & AI.

SPE is also hosting an AI Symposium ‘Navigating the Nexus Where Energy Meets AI and Sustainability’ in Dammam on 4–5 February 2025.

HFI is keen to play a key role in supporting clients’ technology supply and technical services contracts (TSTSCs) and in-region manufacturing ventures (IMVs) in the Middle East region, with advanced energy technology licensing and local manufacturing, procurement, employment and training being a growing policy objective in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Oman.
