Three Low Carbon Champions Driving New Energy Technologies

It was great to catch up recently with fellow GlobalScot, Ingrid Huldal, Director Sustainable Energy Solutions at Expro Group. Ingrid is steering Expro's renewable energy initiatives and leveraging her deep expertise in decarbonization and geothermal energy. With over two years at the helm, Ingrid has successfully assisted to position Expro at the forefront of the shift towards clean energy, embodying a strategic vision that aligns with Expro’s global decarbonisation goals.

New energy and low-carbon solution technologies are vital elements in the energy sector. From a Middle East perspective, coming up 16-17 September is the SPE International Executive Symposium: Innovation and Collaboration for Low Carbon Energy Solutions in Abu Dhabi. Mohammad Abu Zahra, Head of MENA Region at Global CCS Institute will be moderating a strategic panel session at this event - Road Maps to Net Zero and Post COP28 Actions Towards COP29. The panel includes Luca Corradi, Chief Technology Officer of Net Zero Technology Centre. HFI has been delighted to support NZTC in the region.

CCS in the MENA region already accounts for around 8% of global capture capacity and is on the cusp of a remarkable uptrend, with commitments by Qatar, the UAE and Saudi Arabia in announcing net-zero targets for 2030, 2050 and 2060, respectively, and COP28 UAE serving as a catalyst for the accelerated adoption of CCS technologies in the region. Global CCS Institute will be hosting a members’ conference alongside ADIPEC Exhibition and Conference 2024 which will update on the progress of the roll-out of CCS projects throughout the region.

It was also great to catch up with Craig Nicol, UAE Manager at NZTC at the recent EIC (Energy Industries Council) Technology Showcase in Abu Dhabi. NZTC is also gearing up for ADIPEC 2024 with the hosting of the Sulphur Innovation Challenge competition in collaboration with ADNOC Group.

We wish Ingrid, Mohammed and Luca & Craig every success with these initiatives.
