Subsea Expo showcases UK’s £8 billion underwater industry

Delighted to have attended Subsea Expo this week with Katharine Fraser. Subsea Expo is hosted by Global Underwater Hub which is headquartered in Aberdeen and represents the diverse range of businesses operating in the UK’s £8 billion underwater industry. It facilitates cross-collaboration and growth across the underwater industry, which comprises offshore energy, aquaculture, defence, telecoms and subsea minerals. Key GUH members include leading industry players such as Tekmar Energy, Brimmond, Petrasco Energy Logistics (a Denholm Energy Services Company), ROVOP, Proserv, STATS Group and Xodus.

It was a pleasure to meet up with Steve Fernie of the GUH and to catch up with long standing HFI connections Keith Robertson and Tim Eley.

At the Subsea Expo Award dinner with guest speaker for the evening Gyles Brandreth and GUH CEO Neil Gordon, the winners were announced below: -

Amongst the exhibitors at Subsea Expo were GUH members and HFI clients Brimmond and Petrasco.

Brimmond specialise in the design, manufacture, rent and refurbishment of lifting, mechanical hydraulic equipment and offer tailored marine crane packages for the marine and offshore industries. Brimmond have recently announced the roll out of the UK’s largest marine crane fleet and following a £750k investment, Brimmond boast one the largest rental fleets of high-capacity marine cranes in the UK and is the exclusive UK and Ireland provider and servicer of global market leader, Heila Marine Cranes.

At Subsea Expo Petrasco, led by Kevin Buchan, Managing Director, celebrated 50 years in the global logistics market, from its beginnings in Aberdeen in 1974 to operations in energy hubs in Houston, Dubai and beyond where it provides expert knowledge on emerging markets to energy companies around the world.

In the Middle East, Subsea7 has recently been awarded a US$500m contract by Saudi aramco for the Abu Safah field expansion under a long-term agreement. The contract scope includes the decommissioning of existing subsea facilities as well as engineering, procurement, construction and installation of a new pipeline and subsea equipment. Key areas of interest in the Middle East for the GUH team highlighted by Steve Fernie are subsea cables, mooring and anchoring equipment, electrification of offshore facilities and floating solar,

With its origins in the North Sea oil and gas sector, HFI has been privileged to support various GUH members in their MENA business expansion and the subsea sector particularly in relation to business growth ventures through international group structures, local partner ventures, acquisitions and in-region technology manufacturing.
