HFI Petroleum Legal Solutions was delighted to attend the OWI MENA 2023 and SPE/IADC MENA Drilling 2023 Conferences in Abu Dhabi held back-to-back in May, a great opportunity to catch up with technology clients and to hear updates on new advanced technologies which are driving into the massive Middle East opportunities.

ADS Power Chokes, led by Charlie Orbell, has just secured its first Middle East breakthrough with a major contract award in Abu Dhabi. Backed by Black Bay Energy PE Group, ADS sees the Middle East as its primary growth engine and it has been great to support Charlie and his team to launch their international business in the region.

Archer’s presence had a strong focus on the Romar Abrado’s plugging and abandonment technology following Archer’s acquisition of Romar Abrado, led by Jason Broussard, from the EV private equity group in January and it was pleasure to catch up with Andre Kjonnerod and Daniel McPherson of Archer and Rashid Al Shukeili of Leaders Oilfield Equipment. Rashid and his team have been a longer term partner for drilling technology clients navigating their way into the huge ADNOC capex programme. 

Inter-Casing Pressure Control (ICPC) was launched in 2019 by Stan LaMascas and its fluid injection process are targeting a market of 760,000 international wells facing well integrity challenges including H2S and CO2 damage, with Stan now supported by David Barker, Robert Manson, Jeremy Hollan and Mohamad Elrefai.

Advanced petroleum technology in the region was very much the focus at Aramco-led MEOS 2023 in Bahrain and Dragon Oil-led GOTECH 2023 in Dubai earlier this year and the OWI and SPE/IADC events and the theme will roll into the ADNOC-led ADIPEC 2023 in Abu Dhabi in October.
