Oman strives world class hydrogen status as Oman Sustainability Week 2024 sees announcement of US$11 billion for two new green hydrogen projects
Following on from OPES 2024 in Muscat last week, it was a pleasure for HFI represented by Hugh Fraser to attend Oman Sustainability Week in Muscat today and to catch up with clients and connections. This conference began with Oman’s Hydrom announcing signing two new green hydrogen projects in Dhofar worth US$11bn. The signings follow the successful completion of Hydrom’s second round of auctions bringing the total hydrogen production in Oman to 1.4 mtpa by 2030 rising to 8.5 mtpa by 2050.
It was great to catch up with Mohammad Abu Zahra, Head of Middle East and Africa (MEA) Region at Global CCS Institute after his presentation for the 2024 MEA CCS Forum which took place at the Oman Sustainability Week. A keynote session was moderated by Martin Jagger, General. Manager, WeConnect Energy and featured Dr Firas Al Abduwani, Director General, Oman Ministry of Energy & Minerals, Mohammed Shuayli, Climate Change and Sustainability Manager, Petroleum Development Oman, Ali Mohammadi, Head Business Development, OQGN and Bernadene Smith, Principal – Policy, Regulation and Commercial, Global CCS Institute.
It was also an opportunity to meet with Myrtle Dawes, CEO and Roy Stenhouse, Chief Impact Officer of Net Zero Technology Centre. Net Zero Technology Centre continues to work with industry, government and academia driving technology innovation to accelerate the energy transition to net zero based in Scotland, and with an increasing international dimension.
Among the technology players exhibiting, much enjoyed my meeting with Fabian Mueller, Managing Director of Green Tech Energy and Water LLC. Green Tech Energy & Water offers cutting edge solar PV technologies: on-grid, off-grid, solar/diesel hybrid systems, solar PV carports, mobile solar PV systems, energy storage systems (ESS), specialized custom solutions, professional solar O&M services.
A key focus for Oman for HFI is our Local Partner Ventures offering on which we collaborate with our network partners in Muscat, Mohammed Al Ruqaishi Law Firm (MAR Law). HFI will be launching our Oman Ventures Initiative at the end of this week, tracking over 20 years of experience of working on Oman energy ventures and building on a wealth of intelligence and connections gained from OPES 2024 and OWS 2024 this month in Muscat.
