Net Zero Technology Centre drives hydrogen and sulphur technologies initiatives ahead of ADIPEC 2024

It has been a pleasure supporting Net Zero Technology Centre and to meet  Myrtle Dawes, CEO, Roy Stenhouse, Chief Impact Officer and Craig Nicol, UAE Representative of Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC) on the ground as they ramp up in the Middle East.

NZTC continues to work with industry, government and academia driving technology innovation to accelerate the energy transition to net zero, based in Scotland and with an increasing international dimension. As NZTC points out, investing in innovation can be complex; from ascertaining legitimacy of the technology to its true technology readiness level, to where it sits in the lifecycle of industry and NZTC offers a technology due diligence service which helps energy technology companies “take the guess work and risk out of” selecting their next technology investment.

NZTC’s expertise in hydrogen will be showcased in Aberdeen on 28 August at the Energy Transition Zone (ETZ) masterclass series where energy leaders explore Scotland’s Hydrogen future. Hosted in association with Hydrogen Scotland and delivered by the EIC. NZTC’s, Director of Energy Transition, Martyn Tulloch, will be presenting and sharing NZTC’s latest insights, specifically on the Hydrogen Backbone Link project, and Scotland’s position to become a global leader in hydrogen production and use.

From a Middle East perspective, following on from the Decarbonisation Challange at ADIPEC 2023, NZTC is now supporting ADNOC with the delivery of the Sulphur Innovation Challenge, a global competition to find innovative approaches to environmentally responsible sulphur utilisation. Companies from across the globe are invited to submit novel solutions that can advance and diversify the utilisation of sulphur in the Middle East. The winning companies will receive technology development funding with ADNOC worth up to $1 million, incubation opportunities at ADNOC's state-of-the-art research and innovation facility in Abu Dhabi and invaluable opportunities to work with ADNOC, to expand their network and accelerate their technology development towards commercialisation  Successful applicants will be invited to pitch their innovations to a panel of judges at ADIPEC 2024 in November.  Applications should reach NZTC by 6 September 2024.

HFI is keen to play its part in supporting its clients’ energy transition ventures in the Middle East with our HFI Net Zero Legal Solutions team. The region continues to be dominated by petroleum sector ventures which will provide sales, profits and cash flow to allow diversification into clean energy ventures. Nuclear, solar, hydrogen and CCS are now substantial and growing parts of the energy mix of the region, with the total energy market to 2030 valued at US$722 billion.
