Dubai solar park heads towards 5000 MW to drive Middle East energy transition
HFI very much enjoyed the site visit to Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park with Hugh Fraser and Sally Reeves, HFI's Client Relations Manager. This is the largest single-site solar park in the world and has planned production capacity of 5,000 MW by 2030, with investments totalling AED50 billion. When completed, it will save over 6.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
In 1990 when Hugh Fraser was working in Scotland's electricity sector the UK’s biggest power station was the coal-fired Longannet with a capacity of 2,400 MW - so the UAE will soon have the equivalent of two Longannets producing solar power!
Looking forward to COP28 which is being held here in Dubai at the end of the month. The UAE plans to invest up to US$54 billion over the next seven years to meet its energy demand, including via investments in hydrogen fuel and developing infrastructure for electric vehicles (EV). Most of the growth in renewable energy will come from solar, accounting for 85% of the total installed renewable energy capacity by 2030.
Hugh Fraser International is keen to play its part in supporting its clients ventures within these market opportunities with our HFI Net Zero Legal Solutions initiative focussing on clean energy including carbon capture and hydrogen and HFI Petroleum Technology Legal Solutions focusing on decarbonisation, smart wells & intelligent completions, plugging and abandonment and other advanced technologies.
