2023

Canadian advanced technology has been centre stage recently with various Foresight 50 companies being represented at the Global Energy Show 2023 in Calgary.

Foresight 50 shines a spotlight on compelling climate solutions by recognising Canada’s 50 most investible cleantech ventures. Foresight supports hundreds of companies from across the country in scaling their ventures and raising billions of dollars in capital to support the development of critical solutions. In 2021 Foresight companies raised almost $600M. 2022 cohort was featured in over 900 international media hits. 2023 applications are now underway. Foresight 50 is led by CEO Jeanette Jackson.

Swirltex, a Foresight 50 company is revolutionizing how wastewater is handled across multiple industries. Their system involves a distinctive flow pattern within a tubular membrane: based on buoyancy, contaminants are channelled away from the membrane surface allowing clean water to pass through. This provides higher production rates and higher quality effluent. Swirltex solves complex wastewater problems with a proprietary membrane solution that reduces energy consumption by over 60% using decentralized modular units. It was pleasure to meet Peter Christou, Swirltex’s CEO/CTO, as part of GES2023.

Canada’s advanced energy technology will be featured again at Carbon Capture Canada 2023 to be held in Edmonton in September, showcasing Canada’s opportunity for carbon capture and underground storage innovation, technology and destination for global investment.

CCS continues to roll forward: the Global CCS Institute has recently published its report on unlocking private finance to support CCS investments. https://www.globalccsinstitute.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Unlocking-Private-Finance-For-CCS-Thought-Leadership-Report-1-1.pdf. This institute is an international think tank whose mission is to accelerate the deployment of carbon capture and storage (CCS), a vital technology to tackle climate change and deliver climate neutrality – it is led by CEO Jarad Daniel, with Mohamad Abu Zahra as Head of MENA region.

Carbon Capture Canada 2023 will be closely followed by ADIPEC 2023 in October in Abu Dhabi. Hosted by ADNOC, this year’s theme will be 'Decarbonising. Faster. Together.' and we expect Canadian technology companies to be well represented.

The GES conference was also a great opportunity for Hugh Fraser, HFI to catch up with Adam Joyce, Rainmaker, based in Canada. Rainmaker is a global organisation of business development executives that connect companies with qualified business opportunities around the world. It has been a pleasure to work with Rainmaker to support Cleantek Industries international growth plans. Cleantek, led by CEO Matt Gowanlock provides technology-based lighting, dehydration and security equipment that requires less fuel, minimal maintenance and low operating cost.
