AI in CAIRO takes centre stage at EGYPES 2025

Next week sees a queue of important energy technology conferences commencing with EGYPES - Egypt Energy Show 2025 in Cairo 17 – 19 February. A key part of the discussions during the conference will be AI and digitalisation.

AI and digitalisation are transforming energy, potentially cutting emissions by 20% by 2030. They enhance efficiency, improve emissions tracking, and optimise energy use, paving the way for decarbonisation. However, challenges remain, including the high investment needed to upgrade legacy systems and integrate new technologies.

As part of the EGYPES 2025 Technical conference a discussion on ‘Digitalisation and AI as a Key Enabler of the Energy Transition’ will take place discussing emerging trends and challenges of integrating AI and digital solutions into traditional energy systems. Taking part will be Klaas Mantal, Chief Operating Officer, ADNOC Distribution, Norinao Sato, President and Chief Executive Officer, Middle East & Africa, Yokogawa, M. Belgacem Merad, Senior Vice President MENA,Weatherford, Sebastien Riez, Cluster President, North east Africa and Levant Region, Schneider Electric with Dr. Faye Gerard, Energy Transition Director,International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP) moderating.

The discussions at EGYPES coincide with General Petroleum Company (GPC) announcing this week that they have developed AI models to track stratigraphic traps in depleted brownfields in Egypt. AI analysed data to map oil and gas reservoirs, identifying isolated clusters with original pressures. This is following directives from the Ministry of Petroleum and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) to expand the use of modern technologies to meet the challenges of increasing production.

In the UAE, AI was a key theme at ADIPEC Exhibition and Conference 2024 and saw ADNOC Group, Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company), and Microsoft sign a Strategic Collaboration Agreement (SCA) to advance AI and low-carbon initiatives, reshaping the energy sector. This partnership aimed to drive renewable energy, carbon capture, and efficiency projects to cut emissions and support sustainability.  ADNOC has committed to accelerate AI adoption to boost efficiency, reduce methane emissions per the Oil & Gas Decarbonization Charter, and enhance biodiversity monitoring.

Please see the ‘Powering Possible - AI and Energy for a Sustainable Future’ where ADNOC, Masdar and Microsoft outline seven key areas for collaboration between the energy and technology sectors to accelerate the transition to a net-zero energy system.

Following EGYPES 2025, the week rolls forward to International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Energy Industries Council (EIC) KSA Connect 2025 in Dammam and Subsea Expo 2025 in Aberdeen. We are very much looking forward to catching up with clients and connections.
